Assistant Professor -- Water Resources Management and Low-Impact Development
Nature of Position: Tenure-track faculty position with research (50%) and extension (50%) responsibilities. Establish a nationally recognized research and extension program to address sedimentation, reduced infiltration, and other water quality/quantity issues associated with changing land use in the state and the region. Conduct research on the design, implementation, efficacy, and sustainability of technologies for managing, storing, and utilizing stormwater on the landscape to control erosion and minimize off-site water quality impact. Provide leadership for outreach programs in stormwater management and low-impact development. Develop and deliver curricula, training, and support for educational programming in water resources. Work with extension educators, local government officials, professional engineers, landscapers, developers, community leaders, and others to address water quality and water resource needs. Actively participate in graduate education through recruiting and advising M.S. and Ph.D. students
Eligibility: Earned doctorate in Biosystems Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline (all requirements for the degree must have been met prior to start date). Registered professional engineer or eligible to pursue licensure. Expertise required in water resources engineering including surface water hydrology. Experience in stormwater management and low-impact development is highly desirable. Candidates must have excellent speaking and writing skills, an ability to teach in various extension settings, and a desire to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment. Full-time, 11-month, tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary commensurate with qualifications.

Post-Doctoral Research Fellow
Nature of Position: Full-time Postdoctoral Researcher sought to provide research support in the fermentation of syngas/producer gas from the gasification of lignocellulosic biomass. Research activities will include interaction with faculty and graduate students involved in all aspects of converting syngas into value-added products using fermenters/bioreactors. Responsibilities include planning and conducting batch and chemostat experiments, supervising graduate students, analyzing fermentation products using GC and/or HPLC and analyzing and publishing research results.
Eligibility: An earned doctorate in Biosystems, Agricultural or Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry or Microbiology, or a closely related field by time of assumption of position. Experience in fermentation techniques required. Familiarity with anaerobic cell culture, syngas fermentation, and basic microbiology techniques is highly desirable. Candidates should have a strong publication record, effective communication skills, and an ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering and other units on campus. The position will be filled by April 1, 2008, or as soon as an acceptable candidate is found. This is a full-time, temporary, non-tenure-track faculty appointment. Initial appointment is for two years, with an opportunity for renewal. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

Research Engineer - Biofuel Research
Nature of Position: A full-time professional position in support of a research program in biomass conversion through gasification. This person will actively participate in all aspects of the research program, including design and construction of instrumentation, experimental prototype machines and other equipment related to research, as well as conducting engineering analysis of designs. Additional responsibilities will include proposal preparation, supervision of student employees, preparation of reports, writing of journal articles, and preparation and delivery of educational information.
Eligibility: Minimum requirements: A bachelor’s degree in biosystems, agricultural, mechanical, or chemical engineering (or closely related discipline), with experience in engineering design or product development. Prefer Master’s degree with research and/or laboratory experience. Experience with biomass conversion processes and/or gasification highly desirable. The individual hired in this position must pursue a graduate degree in Biosystems Engineering, and continued employment is dependent upon satisfactory progress in the degree program.Salary commensurate with education and experience.
