ENVIRONMENTAL PREPERATIONS LAB

Research engineers, graduate students, and undergraduate research scholars use this space for research projects. Current projects utilizing this space include: soil column experiments to quantify the role of groundwater seepage and near-bank pore-water pressure on streambank erosion and failure; jet erosion tests for quantifying the erodibility of cohesive soils with and without seepage forces; flow and transport experiments in a soil box simulating vegetative filter strips; soil property analysis experiments for quantifying the leaching of nutrients and other solutes through soils; and large-scale soil column experiments for macropore-facilitated contaminant transport in agricultural soils.
